Designed for luxury (market-rate) housing, the "Missing Middle" will increase gentrification and displacement instead of affordable homes. Not only will this exacerbate affordable housing problems, but substantially increase the destruction of tree canopy.
The proposal is brought to Cambridge by national builders' groups seeking to profit from increasing land values, taxes & rents. The lack of oversight of the proposals and it goes against core tenants of Envision Cambridge.
We must do better.
